Project history

The second series of M27 class minesweepers, order of 1916. M97 group was similar to M71-96 group, but with strengthened armament.

18 units of type 1916 to a beginning of WWII served as auxiliaries: Hecht, Nautilus, Jagd, Frauenlob, Hela, Havel and Taku as tenders; Von der Groeben, Adlers, Nettelbeck and Raule as minesweeper boat (R-boot) depot ships; Acheron as submarine depot ship; Delphin and Fuchs as gunnery training ships; Störtebecker, Sundewall, Arcona and Otto Braun as test ships. In 1939-1940 the majority of them was reclassified as minesweepers with assignment of former numbers.
