Project history

American ships of DET group transferred to France by lend-lease still before commission. Formally transfer was effected simultaneously with commission. Provided by design triple 533mm TT during building was changed replaced by two 40mm Boforses. 2nd group was transferred in 1950s.

Modernizations

early 1960s, F01-06: - SC, SF radars; + SPS-5, SPS-6 radars

mid-1960s, Malgache was converted to command ship of amphibious training centre: - 1 x 24 - 178 Hedgehog ASWRL, 8 DCT, 2 DCR

Naval service

Sénégalais 4.5.1944 at coast of Algeria was damaged by a torpedo from German submarine U371 and was under repair till the end of a year.
