The USSR supplied components for five submarines to be assembled in Chinese shipyards until eventually the Chinese built the entire submarine. A total of twenty-one entered service, 13 built by Kiangnan SY and 8 by Wuhan SY. Obsolete by the 1980s, six had been stricken by 1989, with the remainder either laid up in reserve or serving as stationary harbour training boats.
1960s, all earlier boats: - 1 x 2 - 25/112
