Project history

Second pair of Sovremennyy class was built for China under modified project 956EM. Changes include new SSMs with extended fire range and replacing of the aft 130mm gunmount by additional space for helicopter deck and hangar and of 4 30mm Gatling guns by 2 Kortik missile/gun CADS modules.
