Project history

Representatives of numerous series of Holland-designed submarines (similar boats served under USA, British, Italian and Russian flags), built in 1915-1917 in the USA for the Great Britain and transferred by latter to Chile on account of a debt for Chilean ships bought up in the WWI. Submarines were accepted by Chilean crews in the USA 4.7.1917, departured New London 28.3.1918 and arrived to Talcahuano 20.7.1918. In the Chilean service they originally had also numbers H1-6, but to 1930 these numbers were not used any more.     Operational diving depth was 30m, maximal 90m.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Rucumilla was foundered as a result of accident at Talcahuano 2.6.1919, but this very day without victims she was salvaged. Quidora became the unique Chilean ship, which have received damages during bombing of Coquimbo by Governmental aircraft 1.9.1931. Chilean submarines have appeared champions among of the same class boats on a life time.
