Project history
Program to build six to eight Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) under proposed budget of 3.1 billion Canadian dollars. The ships are expected to operate and patrol in Canada's EEZ and arctic waters. Requirements included top speed in excess of 17 knots (at first 20), range of more than 6000 nautical miles, patrol duration of 4 months as well as the ability to operate in Sea State 4 and to penetrate ice up to 1m thick. Helicopter and/or unmanned aerial vehicle landing capability will be included and the ability to land and support boarding parties both ashore and afloat is required. Ships will have retractable fin stabilizers. 20t crane can handle 6 containers on deck and vehicles from a vehicle deck, vehicles can also be landed via the ramp in the port at the starboard side aft.
