Project history

A modified version of British Sir Bedivere class LSLs, but rated as an amphibious heavy lift ship. She can operate Wessex (later Sea King) helicopters, can carry pontoons and has a powerful heavy lift system: 2 4.5t cranes, 1 60t heavy-lift derrick and 14.6m bow and 14.2m stern ramps. Two LCVPs are carried in davits. Can accommodate two Astralian Army NLE pontoon lighters Castor and Pollux on the hull sides.
