In December 1916 orders were placed for 23 repeat 'V' class, but with the triple TT which had not been ready in time for the 'V's. They were virtually identical, the J S White boats having the same level topped and ribbed funnels as the Vectis and Vortigern, and the Thornycrofi 'specials' having the same high freeboard and flat-sided after funnel as the Viceroy and Viscount. Two ordered from Yarrow, to be named Wayfarer and Woodpecker, were cancelled in April 1917 and replaced by 'S' class. In 1918 five ships were completed as minelayers.

Waterhen 29.6.1941 was badly damaged by Italian Ju 87 bombers at Tobruk and 30.6.1941 sunk at tow N of Es-Sallum. Voyager 23.9.1942 ran aground as a result of a nautical fault S of Timor and abandoned.
